Stock ref: DS1633
Circa 1930s
A superb early Robert ‘Mouseman’ Thompson Burr oak panelled 3′ Single Bed, one of a matched pair we have privately acquired (see DS1632) which have been in the same family ownership from new. Extensively adzed to all visible surfaces including the oak side frames and complete with its original ‘plyastic’ metal sprung mattress base. The wooden side frames are easily detached for transport and are individually marked to ensure they are assembled correctly. The markings are different on each bed to ensure they are not mixed up. A wonderful mouse is carved in high relief to the left side of the footboard (looking at it from the foot of the bed).
Cleaned and wax polished in our workshop it presents in superb condition with a rich fumed and aged colour, ready to use. There is evidence of an old minor repair to the top corner of the headboard which are shown in the image gallery below.
Excellent provenance, privately acquired directly from the surviving family of the former timber merchant and oak supplier in the pre and post war period to Robert Thompson, together with a professional house contents insurance valuation dated 1943, confirming the early age of this and other bedroom furniture pieces we have purchased from this estate. Full details can be provided to the purchaser.
Offered for sale singly but, of course, we would love the two beds to remain together if possible and will be pleased to discuss pricing for the pair.
Size: 197(l) x 99(w) x 99(h)cm. It will fit a UK standard 6’3″ / 190cm mattress.
