Circa 1960s
An excellent example of a 7″ shallow oak bowl from Robert Mouseman Thompson. These pieces were sold originally as pipe bowls, the raised centre section would have been used for knocking the ash out of pipes. Pipes are no longer fashionable and these bowls have not been made for many years, although they remain eminetly useful and decorative, and good examples are now keenly sought after by collectors. Adzed exterior, smooth turned interior with a finely exectuted mouse on the outer edge. Very dry on acquisition but it now presents in wonderful condition and the original fuming and a rewax have brought out a rich depth of colour. No evidence of use for pipe ash.
