Circa 1960
A wonderful and now rarely seen Robert ‘Mouseman’ Thompson Oak Double Dished Stool, originally catalogued and sold by Robert Thompson’s as a Long Fireside Stool. Discontinued by the mid 1980s, they are now keenly sought by collectors when they come to market. Of rectangular form with a very distinctive adzed and dished solid oak seat, standing on four substantial square and octagonally carved legs joined by stretchers. A signature carved mouse is carved running up one of the legs.
Presented in excellent clear waxed condition and a rich medium oak colour, following removal of flaking varnish overpainting by the original owning family in the past. All the joints are solid, there’s just minor evidence of usage as intended to the seat top and a small hairline visible in the wood which is shown in the image gallery. Attractively priced.
