Stan Dodds ‘Rabbitman’ Oak Horseshoe Pin Dish

Stock ref: DS1752

Circa 1950s/early 60s

A very rare and unusual ‘Rabbitman’ Horseshoe Pin Dish, an early example of Stan Dodds’ solo work, made whilst he was still working full-time at Robert Thompson’s,  and before Peter Heap later trademark protected the rabbit as his own carved signature.  The Pin Dish features a gilt horseshoe and a delightful carved rabbit which is distinct from that Peter Heap  later carved, particularly around the face and ears. It presents in excellent condition with slight age related edge wear to the gilding on the horseshoe.

Excellent provenance, having come from the estate of Patricia Kirk of Kilburn, the Kirk family being long established farmers and butchers in Kilburn and neighbours of Robert Thompson.

Other pieces available from her estate include a ‘Mouseman’ Workbox presented by her parents as a 21st birthday gift in 1948 and a  ‘Mouseman’ Cheeseboard.
