Sock ref: DS1768
Circa late 1940s/50s
A rarely seen original version of an oak two tier Serving Trolley from the the workshop of Yorkshire Critters craftsman Robert ‘Kingpost’ Ingham. He traded from Burton Leonard near Harrogate until the late 1950s, before retiring and selling most of the assets of the business, including the design rights, to Alan ‘Acornman’ Grainger when he founded Acorn Industries. Whilst of the highest handmade quality relatively little is known about him and therefore his work is not yet as well known as many of the other Critters craftsmen who set up in the 60s, 70s and later. However, this design will be familier to buyers of later made Acornman, Fishman and Lizardman furniture, all of whom have produced similar versions of this versatile item which is jointed centrally, allowing the two sections to be used independently as occasional tables when required. Complete with Robert’s trademark kingpost beam carving and standing on its original Shepherd castors.
Sympathetically cleaned and clear wax polished it presents in superb condition with a wonderful depth of aged colour.
Currently great value for discerning collectors, we’re sure that his work will continue to be increasingly appreciated and valued as more information comes to light about his life and work.
