Circa 1920s

A vey unusual and bespoke made large carved oak  Fire Brush featuring a detailed carved grinning face, as occasionally seen on some early bespoke bookends and monks chairs. Unmarked, which was not unusual in the 1920s prior to the trademark registering of the mouse carving in 1931,  but originally from the Riddihough Estate, Farnhill hall, Skipton and believed to have been supplied by Robert ‘Mouseman’ Thompson in the 1920s when he furnished and panelled the dining room. A  near identical Fire Brush  from the same estate, albeit with a grimacing carved face, was sold by Hartleys, Ilkley in June 2016.

Excellent condition and a deep brown colour, with a  brass ring hanger to the rear.

A rare and unique piece for discerning mouseman collectors.
