Stock ref: DS1813
Circa 1940s
An unusual and wonderfully coloured and patinated solid oak Settle / Monks Bench from the workshops of Robert ‘Mouseman’ Thompson of Kilburn. Most likely to have been commissioned for a church, convent or monestery originally it is solid, heavy and adzed all over including the rear and insides of the side panels. There is evidence a carved inscription has been chiselled out in the past from the rail under the seat. A beautifully detailed mouse is carved incised into lower front section of one side.
Excellent colour and condition, just a small chip loss to the lower foot area of one front side panel and minor usage scratches to the seat back.
Size: 70(w) x 50(d) x 99.5(h)cm
