Stock ref: DS2175
1985
An excellent and very rare example of a bespoke commissioned extending draw-leaf Dining Table handcrafted by the ex mouseman craftsman Albert ‘Eagleman’ Jeffray of Sessay near Thirsk. 5’6″ in standard form extending to 8’6″ for those special occasions when additional space is required. None of the Yorkshire craftsmen have ever produced draw-leaf extending tables as standard stock pieces, they’ve only been made to client commission. Rarer still, this piece has been designed and made in the typical refectory style favoured by purchasers, with the adzed rectangular top supported on twin baluster carved legs and feet, joined by a lower stretcher. The only other bespoke examples we’ve seen have been made with a four corner leg design. A copy of the original order and invoice confirms it was made in 1985, together with a 4’10” sideboard we’ve also purchased, all directly from the original owners family. Albert’s trademark eagle carved to the lower leg.
The table presents in excellent condition with wonderful natural oak graining. We’ve stripped, cleaned, re-sealed and waxed it.
Complimented by a set of six oak dining chairs with handcarved Tudor / Yorkshire rose back splats and leather upholstery. The frames have been cleaned and re-waxed, the original leather upholstery cleaned, conditioned and with excellent underfoam and webbing. Eached chair carved with Albert’s trademark eagle.
Table size: 167.5 to 259(w) x 91(w) x 74.5(h)cm
