Circa 1940s/50s
A wonderful example of the sought after early Cheeseboard from the KIlburn workshops of Robert ‘Mouseman’ Thompson. The oval board is subtly adzed to the upper surface with a large well fed, high backed mouse carved characteristically to the board and a nicely curved and shaped handle. These earlier made cheeseboards were prone to breakage where the handle joins the board, so in about 1960 the mouse was moved to the handle to add extra strength to this section.
Excellent colour and condition, no knife marks on the board, just the expected very minor nibbles around the upper edges of the ears on the mouse carving.
