Circa 1918
Genuine A W Simpson of Kendal Arts and Crafts dished oak ‘Easy Stool’ with webbed leather seat held in place with domed upholstery studs. Four square corner legs each tapering to an octagonal foot. Correct ‘Handicrafts’ label to the underside with the number 4671 stamped into the wood, dating the piece to about 1918.
Presents in excellent solid condition, the oak displaying a lovely aged and waxed patina. As is usual, the original leather may well have been replaced in the past is in very good condition with no splits or tears.
Known to be originally from the estate of Annie Taylor of Crosthwaite,Nr kendal, hence to her sister (Hebert Simpson’s neighbour) and descendants.
