Circa 1980

Wonderful lightly used adzed cheeseboard from Robert Mouseman Thompson. Originally oiled which has preserved it’s lighter original finish, now cleaned and waxed. A good well defined mouse  is overlapping the handle and board. Locally purchased and believed to have been bought new in 1980.

Circa 1930s

A rare matched pair of early Robert Mouseman Thompson candlesticks of octagonal tapering form with large well defined mice carved in high relief to a facet on the candlesticks, one facing right, the other left. Gorgeous patina and rich chestnut brown waxed colour, a superb and sought after collectors piece.

Circa early/mid 1960s

A lovely example of a cheeseboard from the workshops of Robert Mouseman Thompson’s, made shortly aftrer they switched from carving the mice on the board to the handle, a move made primarily to strengthen the handle section which was prone to breakage.  Adzed cutting board, the whole piece with a wonderful depth of aged colour, minimal usage marks on the board. Locally sourced and from the same original ownership as the set of 6 Napkin Rings  – stock ref: DS1400.

Circa 1930s/40s

A superb early 12″ oak table lamp from Robert Mouseman Thompson with the rarer mouse carved prominently to the base rather than on the centre of the stem.  Dark fumed from new it now presents with a rich dark chocolate brown colour.  It presents in pristine working order following a clean and wax, new 3 metre 3 core period braided wiring, new antiqued brass bulb holder and plug. No evidence of damage or previous repair.

We note a similar example sold on ebay for £ 690 (excl delivery) in October which was in need of a clean and rewire and had some minor damage.See the link below.

Circa late 1940s/50s

A superb earlier made Robert Mouseman Thompson oak workbox in excellent condition internally and externally with a rich colour and patina. Features a panelled storage cabinet with hinged lid with a drawer below, standing on four square and octagonally carved legs with a well defined mouse carved prominently to the front leg. This earlier made piece features a number of differences to the currently made piece, most noticeably it is adzed to the entire framework and panelling including the rear. The side panels are also of longer length than on 60s onwards pieces. This panelling extends to the rear, on more modern pieces the rear has been simplified with a single plain board. This piece is also lockable, with 2 keys and a working lock.

Circa 1960s

A superb example of an earlier adzed all over, including the panels,  Robert Mouseman Thompson oak glazed corner  display cabinet. Featuring a glazed and leaded upper display cabinet with castellated penny moulded top section, single lockable door with key,  5 inner glass shelves ( 2 more than usually supplied) and a later fitted interior light. Below is a single doored cupboard with fixed inner shelf. Traditional  arts and crafts style wrought iron fittings. Signature mouse carved in high relief to the upper edge of the cupboard section.

Superb condition free from staining  and  a rich deep honey colour. Known to have been in the previous ownership of  former mouseman craftsman Paul Golding’s family. Paul  began his career at Robert Thompson’s before WWII  and he returned there after active service with the RAF. He was master carver from 1947 to his retirement in 1987. He died in 2004.

Circa late 1970s

A superb Mouseman book trough in excellent condition with a wonderful depth of colour, particularly fine quarter sawn graining and age typical adzing to the side panels. One of the collective of items purchased recently that were in the prior ownership of mouseman craftsman Paul Golding’s family. Paul trained at Robert Thompson’s before WWII and returned there after RAF service. He was senior carver from 1947 up to his retirement in 1987. He passed away in 2004.

Superb 12″ Mouseman table lamp of traditional form with an octagonal carved and tooled stem over a square base and a beautifully executed mouse carved prominently to the centre of the lamp stem. Darker fumed from new it presents with a rich warm chestnut
brown colour. Rewired with 3 metre period braided lead, antiqued brass bulb holder and plug. Acquired directly from the original owners family in Thirsk, known to have been bought as a wedding present in 1947 for their parents.
