Circa 1970’s

Refectory style coffee table, its older age indicated by the fact that the adzed top is from a single plank of oak. Modern tops are now usually made from two jointed and glued planks, reducing the natural warpage that occurs as the seasoned oak dries
and hardens with age. The top is supported by two large carved octagonal legs, joined by a single chamfered stretcher. A wonderfully large and prominent mouse is carved in high relief on one of the legs.

It is presented in superb condition, with just a few minor marks to the top commensurate with normal use, and the expected age related joint shrinkage and light warpage to the top. Waxed, not varnished, it is a lovely golden colour with beautiful graining.

Genuine A W Simpson rectangular oak and lattice leather topped ‘Easy Stool’. The webbed leather seating is held in place by copper upholstery studs. Four square corner legs, joined by stretchers, each tapering to an octagonal foot. Correct painted brass
label to the underside, also inscribed  with the job number 7327 and patent registration number 695391. Very popular in the early 20th C, it was the only item Simpson’s patented in an effort to stop other manufacturers inferior copies.

Superb condition, the oak has a lovely aged and waxed patina and all the joints are sound. The leather has been replaced in the past and presents with a lighter colour on exposed parts but is much darker to unexposed surfaces.

Size: 40.5(w) x 30.5(d) x 30.5(h) cm.

1924

An extremely rare and unique opportunity to acquire a table of historical importance in the history of Liberty’s and the Arts and Crafts movement that so inspired its founder.

Rectangular planked top with a moulded edge, later inset with a brass metre rule, and with pegged bracket supports. Raised on substantial tapered and chamfered supports with pierced decorative panels in a geometric tear-shaped design and linked by a spirally
fluted stretcher with incised ends. Stamp marked 6962 and liberty paper label written 6 west. This table is 1 of just 4 in this size, finish and style released in March 2011 by Liberty’s, who have retained a core collection themselves. (40 items
in total released – tables, chests, cabinets). Provenance: Liberty & Co.

Just cleaned and waxed, the table is as it was acquired from Liberty’s, perfectly sound and ready to use, but with some marks from its 87 years of use, as i believe any attempt to over restore it will detract from both its historical and monetary
value.

Size: 152.5(l) x 75.5(w) x 76(h) cm.

The table is part of a small unique collection of furniture made specifically in the tudor style, to compliment the design of Liberty’s magnificent tudor building completed in 1924. The building (shown above) was constructed to demonstrate craftsmanship of the highest quality and attention to detail, a reflection of the Arts and Crafts values of ‘truth to material’, a philosophy that played such an important role in the foundation of the company and the products it sold. The 20’s was also the highpoint of the tudor revival in the UK. The furniture was designed by architects Edwin T and Edwin S Hall and made in Liberty’s own workshops in Highgate, for the rooms and galleries within the store to display the textiles, clothes and luxury goods Liberty’s was so famous for. The range included a number of tables, chests and display cabinets, all in the 16th C style with pegged construction and decorative details complimenting the wood finishes and decorative design details, in the building itself. Circa 1930

Eagerly sought after by collectors, very early Mouseman bowls just don’t come any better than this.

Deeper than most early (and modern !) bowls at 3” and hand tooled to the inside and outside. A characteristically early and beautifully carved large, high backed mouse, with slim neck and prominent head to the outer side of the bowl. Clearly lovingly
cared for, the wood has developed a stunning deep chestnut brown patina. The wood colour is the combined result of original fuming with ammonia, maturation of the oak, regular waxing and natural usage. No damage or evidence of any repair.

Production of fruit bowls with the mouse on the outer side continued until the late 1950’s

Circa 1960’s

Very rare to the vintage/antique market. Lovely hand carved octagonal base with a wonderfully plump and detailed mouse running around the base. The carved octagonal upright leads to a octagonal top. Stunning deep honey patina which accentuates the graining
of the oak. There is some minor ring marking to the top but this is entirely in line with its intended use as a plant stand.

The early history of the piece is unknown but I am advised it was bought as a vintage piece in 1987 and presented as a retirement gift to the last owners father. There is evidence of a small plaque having been in place previously on the base but the pin
holes have been filled, are very well blended and unnoticeable from a few inches away.
