Circa 1950s

An excellent example of the extremely popular earlier made 9 3/4″ diameter solid oak Fruitbowl by Robert Thompson, the ‘Mouseman’ of Kilburn. Tooled all over  with a signature mouse carved to the exterior side of the bowl. From about 1960 the bowls have been larger but shallower, and the mice have been carved to the centre of the bowl.

Excellent overall condition and medium fumed and waxed colour with no stains, wood splits or repairs.

Circa 1980s

An excellent Herbert ‘Kingfisher’ Bird of York 14″ Oak Stool. The octagonal top features a Yorkshire rose  carved centrally, typical  exposed and wedged leg joints through the seat and scalloped lower edge. The three curved legs are extensively adzed and his signature kingfisher is carved in high relief to one leg.

Excellent condition, this example darker fumed and wax polished giving it a lovely patina. Given as a personal gift by Herbert to the original owner.

Circa 1970s/80s

An excellent solid oak Arts  & Crafts  Oak Magazine Rack,  in the Cotswold School tradition with  visible wedged tennon joints on both ends, slatted sides either side of a central divide and carrying handle. There’s also additional lower storage on one side, beneath the magazine section. The maker is unidentified but this is clearly a high quality handcrafted piece.

Excellent clean and waxed condition.

Excellent  handcrafted Keswick School of Industrial Art (K.S.I.A.) Arts and Crafts Copper Candlestick. Stamped KSIA to the pull out sconce/drip tray, the centre with a twisted stem and a dished base with repousse leaf forms and pin marking.

A wonderfully patinated  and richly coloured example of the solid oak ‘Beaverman’ Colin Almack  Ashtray. Of square form with tooled top and an excellent beaver signature, minor evidence of usage as intended adds to the patina of this piece.

An excellent  3’6″ wide solid oak Blanket / Storage Box from the ex mouseman craftsman Wilf ‘Squirrelman’ Hutchinson who established his own business in Husthwaite near Thirsk in 1957 which continues today in the capable hands of his son Trevor. Of typical  pegged and panelled form, adzed  to all visible surfaces  and with traditional wrought iron fittings  Wilf’s signature squirrel is carved to  a front leg.

An excellent example of the four legged version of the popular solid oak Robert ‘Mouseman’ Thompson Cow Stool.  Features a double kidney shaped seat, subtly adzed and dished, supported on four octagonally carved, tapering and splayed legs, jointed  and wedged through the seat.

A superb  3’6″ wide solid oak Double Wardrobe from the ex mouseman craftsman Wilf ‘Squirrelman’ Hutchinson who established his own business in Husthwaite near Thirsk in 1957 which continues today in the capable hands of his son Trevor. Of typical  pegged and panelled form, adzed all over with traditional wrought iron fittings  and  built in shelveing and a hanging rail. Wilf’s signature squirrel is carved to the upper left side frame.

Circa early 1960s

A beautifully patinated Robert Thompson ‘Mouseman’  Cheeseboard, made shortly after they moved the mouse carving onto the bridge between the handle and board in order to strengthen  the handle.

Excellent detailed mouse carving and superb depth of colour to the board. Very minor knife cuts onto the board, indicative of usage as intended and slight wear to one are of the edge of the board.
