An excellent example of  the  popular 14″ Robert ‘Mouseman’ Thompson  Oak Milking Stool. Traditional kidney shaped and subtly adzed seat with three  splayed, tapered and octagonally carved legs wedge jointed through the top of  the seat. Solid leg joints and an excellent mouse carving to the seat edge.

Excellent condition and rich depth of colour, privately sourced from the original owners family.

Circa 1930s

A rare, beautifully patinated and very highly sought after Robert ‘Mouseman’ Thompson Oak Trinket / Powder Bowl of tapered circular form and domed cover lid, a well exectuted mouse sitting centrally on the domed top. Tooled all over, including the inside of the bowl. 

An exquisite piece,  with superb darker fumed and naturally aged colour and waxed patina, highly prized by collector’s of early Mouseman. An ideal table top piece, perfect for rings and small jewellery items.

An almost identical piece was sold at Tennants, Leyburn for £ 5,200 hammer, £ 6.448 incl buyers premium on 6th March 2021. A  later made 1948 example sold for £ 4,800 hammer, £ 5952 inclusive of buying fees on 19th June 2021 and a 1960s made example sold for £ 3,100 hammer, £ 3844 inclusive of buying fees in July 2020.

Circa 1950s

A superb example of the sought after Robert Mouseman Thompson Oak Double Pin Dish. Handcrafted from  quarter sawn oak, carfeully selected to display the unique golden medullary ray graining that can only be seen when oak is cut this way and in certain light angles. Excellent  condition and colour with a large mouse carving to the centre of the dish.

Circa 1970s/80s

A  little seen on the market  7 ½” diameter circular  solid oak Bowl by the ex mouseman craftsman Peter ‘Rabbitman’ Heap of Wetwang, near Driffield. Adzed exterior and tooled interior with Peter’s distinctive rabbit carved to the exterior side. Lightly fumed  and waxed from new it presents with a lighter medium oak colour. Bought as a  80th birthday gift originally it is engraved  to the underside base  with the original owners first name, although in everyday use this isn’t seen at all.

Circa 1990

An equisite pair of solid oak Bob ‘Wrenman’ Hunter Double Wall Lights, the ex mouseman craftsman who started his apprenticeship at Robert Thompson’s  in the early 1950s, whilst Robert was still alive. Still working daily, he is assisted now by his son’s and grandson. They present in excellent condition following a clean of paint and varnish residues in our workshop and a fresh coat of clear wax. Modern 3 core earthed wiring and brass bayonet bulb holders. His wren carvings are superb with no breakages to the beaks.

Circa 1960s / early 70s

A rare and unusual 6 1/4″ diameter turned oak  Robert Mouseman Thompson Dish  / small Bowl  with a nicely carved signature mouse in high relief to the centre of the bowl. Turned and carved from a block of quarter sawn oak which gives rise to the wonderful golden medullary ray graining seen in the dish. Excellent condition with wonderful rich medium fumed and  aged colour.

Circa 1960s/70s

An excellent example of the no longer made Robert ‘Mouseman’ Thompson Table Lighter. Octagonal solid oak base with excellent signature mouse carved to one facet, inset with period Japanese supplied flint ignited gas lighter, later made examples use a piezo ignitor. It presents in superb colour, condition and working order when gassed, with new flint fitted and the inlet and outlet valves cleaned and checked for  blockages and  gas leakage.

1976

Rare limited edition Robert ‘Mouseman’ Thompson solid carved oak  table top Plaque,  handcarved in very small numbers  in 1976 by  their master carver Stan Dodds  to celebrate the centenary of Robert Thompson’s birth.  Of octagonal form and adzed and tooled to all facing surfaces, the beautifully observed and detailed relief carving shows Robert at work in his workshop chiselling his now internationally famous mouse carving onto a dining table leg. Stan Dodds’ own unique mouse carving is  in high relief to the upper right edge. The plaque is numbered 14 and stands angled on an easel rear support bracket.

Perfect condition and  rich medium fumed and waxed colour.
