An excellent example of the sought after solid oak Chest of Drawers by Robert ‘Mouseman’ Thompson. Features an adzed top with two short over three long drawers. Excellent re-waxed condition with beautifully clean drawers, always protected with lining paper by the original owners.

1997

A superbly made  English Oak Open Bookcase, bespoke made for personal use by the ex Mouseman and later Edward Barnsley trained craftsman, Keith L Moorey (1930-2019). Of  tall open fronted waterfall style it displays all the high quality Yorkshire and Cotswold School design and construction features acquired by Keith during his time working at Robert Thompson’s 1947-1960, before embarking on a furniture course under the tutelage of the renowned Cotswold School maker Edward Barnsley. The sides  and front facing edges, including the shelves, are adzed in typical Mouseman style with detailed chamfers to the side edges. The upper section with two adjustable shelves,  a fixed shelf in the middle with one lower adjustable shelf. Panelled and pegged rear with raised upstand along the rear of the top. As is typical of pieces for his own personal use, it is unsigned.

Wonderful professionally re-finished lighter golden oak colour, excellent condition with very slight expected colour fade where books have been in place for an extended period. 

The piece was in Keith’s personal ownership until his recent death in 2019.

Excellent bespoke commissioned and modestly proportioned solid oak Storage / Blanket Chest from the Acorn Industries workshop of Alan ‘Acornman’ Grainger and his family. Of rectangular form with typical pegged and panelled construction, commissioned with two small drawers below and brass handles.

Medium fumed from new it has been cleaned, refinished and wax polished.

Privately purchased from the original owners family with a copy of the original order 12/12/1964, completed and paid for in July 1965.

Size: 88.5(w) x 40.5(d) x 60.5(h)cm overall.

Internal chest size: 81.5(w) x 32(d) x 35(h)cm.
Internal drawer size: 35(w) x 31(d) x 9.5(h)cm each.

 Excellent example of the 3′ wide x 5’7 1/4″ tall solid oak Glazed Display /Drinks Cabinet from the KIlburn workshop of Robert ‘Mouseman’ Thompson. The upper display section features a leaded and glazed front, adzed oak sides and 3 internal fixed glass shelves. Below is a storage cupboard with adzed top, twin opening panelled doors with a single fixed shelf within and signature mouse carving to one canted front corner, all standing on short octagonally carved legs. Complimented by the use of traditional wrought iron fittings and inclusion of a copy of the original sales order/invoice, confirming original sale on 11/12/85.

Excellent condition and medium fumed colour, following a sympathetic clean and wax polish in our workshop.

Purchased privately directly from the original owners family.

Please note it is photographed without the 3 glass shelves in-situ, these  were in our currently closed Antique Centre showroom at the time of photography at home.

Excellent value as these pieces currently cost £ 5390 to purchase new from Robert Thompson’s Craftsmen Ltd.

Circa 1980s

An excellent 4′ refectory style solid oak Robert ‘Mouseman’  Thompson Coffee Table. Of typical form with a two plank adzed rectangular top supported on two octagonally carved legs and sledge feet, joined by a central low level stretcher. The top features carefully selected  the best quarter sawn planks which are prized for producing the distinctive meduallary ray graining in oak.

Medium fumed the table has been skilfully cleaned, refurbished and wax polished  in our workshop.

Circa 1960s

A beautiful richly coloured example of the popular solid oak Octagonal Coffee Table by Robert Thompson the ‘Mouseman’ of Kilburn. A  carefully selected single plank adzed top  with good graining and ‘cats paw’ burrs  is supported on a cruciform pedestal base with crossed sledge feet, a fine carved mouse sits prominently on one of the legs. Excellent structural condition, rich warm dark oak toned colour, wax finished.

An excellent 2’6″ solid oak coffee / occasional table from the Acorn Industries workshop of Alan ‘Acornman’ Grainger and family. Features a quarter sawn,  adzed rectangular oak top supported on trestle sided legs with sledge feet, supported by a central pegged stretcher with  their trademark acorn signature. Excellent golden oak colour  with wonderful medullary graining in the top with a wax over polyurethane protective finish.

An excellent example of a  Fruitbowl from the Kilburn worshop of Robert ‘Mouseman’ Thompson. Medium fumed   and wax polished with a rich and deepening medium oak colour which highlights the oak graining wonderfully. An excellent characterful signature mouse is carved centrally within the toolled and adzed bowl.
