Circa 1970s

An excellent matched set of 4 of the highly popular Lattice Backed Dining Chair from Robert ‘Mouseman’ Thompson of Kilburn, near Thirsk.  The solid oak frames present in superb condition following a careful clean and re-wax in our workshop, the seats retain their original untreated aniline cow hides  which are now wonderfully patinated and have been carefully  conditioned and balmed to blend the expected marks and staining that are always seen on these earlier untreated cow hides that Robert Thompson’s used at the time. The foams are good and the original hides are not split or worn so have many years of useful life ahead of them if the hide is treated to an annual condition with a proprietory leather conditioner to stop the hide drying out. Originally made as a set of 4 chairs which accompanied the 4′ Circular Mouseman Dining Table we’ve recently sold (Stock ref: DS1810). Carved trademark mice in high relief to each of the right front legs.

To purchase  this set new today would cost £ 3996, but we’ve priced this set competitively to allow purchasers the opportunity, at a future date, to consider replacement of the leather with a current R. Thompson’s treated hide of their own colour choice, and still save a considerable sum on the new price of the chairs today.

Circa late 1920s/30s

An excellent example of a large very early oak 3 legged milking stool from the workshops of Robert Thompson of Kilburn. The seat is carved from a solid 2″ thick block of distinctively feather grained solid oak, dished and tooled to the upper surface, and hand tooled to the underside with rough carved rounded edges. It stands on 3 large octagonal and tapered   legs, much thicker than seen on later made stools, the legs wedge jointed through the seat in typical fashion. A signature mouse is carved prominently to one of the front legs. All three leg joints are solid and the piece is adzed all over in the slightly rougher more rustic style that is so typical of early mouseman pieces.

Excellent condition and colour for its age,  just the expected light usage  chip marking and natural age related wood grain splits.

A rare and unusual to find Walnut Ashtray from the  Acorn Industries workshops of Alan ‘Acornman’ Grainger. Acorn Industries were one of the few Yorkshire craftsmen to produce a range of items in walnut and mahogany, although the vast majority of their output was in oak.  Acorn ashtrays are quite rare to market anyway, even in oak, but this is the first example  we have acquired in walnut.  Excellent condition with the graining and warm colour that is typical of waxed walnut.
