Circa 1980
A fine example of ex mouseman craftsman Sid Pollard’s work, comprising a 6’10” long adzed refectory style dining table, two lattice backed carver armchairs and six lattice backed dining chairs. The table will seat 8 in comfort and up to 10. There’s an optional extra 2 tudor rose backed dining chairs being offered at a special price if purchased as part of the dining set.
Bespoke made in circa 1980 for a family friend of Sid’s who is now retiring and emigrating, from whom we’ve purchased a number of pieces in the past.
The three plank top is adzed and sits on expensive to make twin carved pedestal legs which are joined by a low stretcher. Finished from new in wax over polyurethane which has the benefit of providing greater heat and stain resistance than wax alone. The top presents in very good original condition, with just one small area of liquid staining visible in the top, which can be seen in the image gallery below. This is now well blended following a re-wax of the top, after the images were taken.
The lattice backed chairs present in very good original condition, all the chair frames are clean and sound. The aniline cow hide seating is original on all chairs and presents with a good naturally ageing colour and patina. As such, some have the usual expected minor marks but the hide on both carver chairs is notably excellent.
The optional two rose backed chairs are also solid with original hide seats, although one hide has been ring marked from a pot plant sitting on the hide for an extended period as they have only been in use occasionally, to seat 10 at the table. However, they are available at an extremely attractive price if purchased with the table and lattice chairs. They are also offered for sale separately if required.
