Circa 1950s / early 60s

An excellent example of the earlier 18″ solid oak Robert ‘Mouseman’ Thompson three legged cow / milking stool. Natural wood burrs visible in the subtly adzed seat and standing on three splayed and tapered octagonally carved legs which are visibly wedge jointed through the seat.

This earlier design is distinguishable from more modern examples by the use of a thicker 4.5cm seat and the positioning of the mouse carving on the rear outer edge instead of being at the front in the kidney shaping.

Excellent condition and aged medium fumed colour with tight leg joints.

Circa 1940s/50s

An excellent early 10 ½” tall (excl bulb fitting) Robert ‘Mouseman’ Thompson solid oak table lamp. octagonally carved base with upswept facets and octagonally carved central stem. Excellent early mouse carving. Rewired with new period braided three core earthed wiring and new antiqued brass BC22 bayonet bulb holder.

Excellent condition and rich darker fumed colour and patina.

Circa 1980s

An excellent example of the extremely popular 3′ solid oak refectory style coffee table by Robert ‘Mouseman’ Thompson. Of rectangular form with an adzed single plank top with lovely natural graining patterns, supported on two octagonally carved baluster legs with sledge feet, joined by a floor set stretcher. Signature mouse carving to one leg.

Excellent condition and medium fumed colour, we’ve photographed a small filled knot on the top which was filled when originally made by Robert Thompson’s.

Circa 1980s

An excellent and rare to market solid oak  2’6″ wide bureau by the ex Mouseman (1954-66) craftsman Albert Jeffray who retired in 2005 and passed away in 2013. Adzed to all visible sides with a fall front which opens, and is supported on twin pull out lopers, to reveal a writing desk with inner rear shelved compartments. Below are two drawers and a twin doored cupboard with inner shelving. Panelled all over and complimented by traditional wrought iron fittings. Standing on four octagonally carved feet.

Excellent condition and colour with a clean interior with Albert’s signature eagle incised into a lower side rail.

Currently missing it’s original key for the lock on the fall front.

Purchased new by a Northallerton, North Yorkshire client.

Circa 1960s

An excellent example of the earlier made Book Trough from the Kilburn workshops of Robert ‘Mouseman’ Thompson. Adzed to the sides and book ledge, whereas mid/late 70s onwards  book troughs have only been adzed to the outer sides.
Cleaned and re-waxed in our workshop it presents in superb condition with a rich deeper and aged medium fumed oak colour, with no losses or repairs.  Excellent upwards facing mouse carved to one side edge.

Circa early 1900s

A beautifully original and unrestored solid oak 3’6″ wide arts and crafts period wardrobe by the Gillows of Lancaster trained craftsman Arthur W Simpson who established his own business in Windermere and later Kendal.

Of understated panelled form with twin doors which feature typical Simpson flower head and petal carved details and Rathbone brass door handles. There’s a working lock and key. Clean interior with hanging rail, three brass coat hooks and Simpson’s applied Handicrafts label. The original brass left door closures are present but incomplete so do not function, supplemented in the past by a more modern fixing. It looks as though it has had a lower shelf in the past but this is no longer present.

Wonderful sound original condition, rich dark oak colour.

Privately sourced from the original owners family.

Circa 1990s

An excellent solid oak handcrafted Robert ‘Mouseman’ Thompson TV / Entertainment Cabinet. Features an adzed top with rear upstand to support a TV, twin hinged pull down drawer fronts below for the storage of various media and entertainment players. Cable cut-outs to each drawer and rear ventilation. Typical panelled and pinned sides  and rear with a  signature mouse carved to the canted front corner edge. Standing on four octagonally carved feet.

Excellent condition, medium fumed colour. Currently £ 4,090 to purchase new from Robert Thompson’s.

Circa 1970s/80s

High quality traditional kidney shaped cow stool with subtle adzing to the seat by Mouseman trained Peter ‘Rabbitman Heap who established his own workshop in Driffield in 1970. Standiing on  three splayed and tapered octagonal legs, the wedged joints visible in the seat.

Excellent colour and condition with tight leg joints and Peter’s trademark rabbit  carved prominently to the  edge of the seat.

An excellent  solid oak plant stand by the ‘Yorkshire Critters’ craftsman Geoff Gell of Coxwold Cabinetmakers, established in 1987. Classically styled with a circular top, spiral central stem and three shaped and reed edged feet. Signature unicorn to the side of one splayed foot.

Circa 1980s

An excellent small 84cm rectangular adzed oak shelf bespoke made for the original owners by alan ‘acornman’ grainger with signature acorn to the upper surface at one end. Originally in use over a radiator. Metal wall fitting brackets included.

Circa 1930s

An excellent example of an early three legged cow stool with wonderful burr figuring to the 2″ thick seat, standing on three thick splayed and tapered octagonally carved legs. Signature mouse carving to one leg as was usual on these very early stools. Adzed and tooled to the whole piece, including the underside, which again was usual before Robert Thompson purchased a planing machine in the late 1930s.

Beautiful rich colour and patina. Covered in non original thick varnish on acquisition, this has been sympathetically removed and the stool re-polished with wax in our workshop.

An excellent example of the popular solid oak magazine rack by Robert ‘Mouseman’ Thompson. Standing on sledge feet with panelled V shaped sides, supported by two octagonally carved uprights joined to a carrying handle. A trademark mouse is carved to the handle.
