Stock ref: DS1686
Circa late 1970s/ early 1980s
An unusually rare opportunity for collectors of the Yorkshire Critters work to acquire what is believed to be a one off oak Pen Tray made by former mouseman craftsman Brian Bowes for family relations, featuring a salmon /trout carving that he was experimenting with at the time as his own ‘Critter’ carving. A small number of other pieces made by Brian are known to have this carved signature either in high relief or incised, most remaining in close family and friends ownership.
We believe Brian joined Robert Thompson’s as an apprentice straight from school in the late 60s, working with them until the mid 1980s, when he left to take over a family owned joinery business.
The Pen Tray is of typical mouseman style with the penny moulded castellated edge, large pen tray and two smaller pin trays. Wonderful condition and colour. Privately acquired.
