A beautiful densely burred elm 12 ½” diameter fruitbowl by the Yorkshire School craftsman K Lockwood. Lathe turned inside and out with KL initials to the base.
Excellent condition and colour except for a small hairline to the rim which in not unusual in such densely burred wood which we’ve shown in the image gallery below.
Sadly we currently know very little about this craftsman whose work is only now starting to appear on the market, some of it adzed and either signed with his initials KL or with an otter signature. The quality of adzing and carving suggests they have trained at R Thompson’s or one of the other larger workshops. Any further background details would be gratefully received.
