Circa late 1930s / early 1940s
Just arrived and awaiting a sympathetic clean, photographed in the image gallery below ‘as purchased’.
A beautifully coloured and patinated early made dining set from the Kilburn workshops of Robert ‘Mouseman’ Thompson, made within his lifetime. Features a 3′ square adzed and dowelled top dining table supported on an adzed cruciform pedestal legged central column supported on adzed crossed feet. A superb early fat mouse carving to the cruciform pedestal.
The table is complimented by 4 of Robert’s favorite solid oak Panel Back Dining Chairs. These early chairs can be distinguished by their adzed frames, adzing to the front and rear back panels and the rush rail positioned between the front legs.
The dining set was fully refurbished and sold as a classic vintage set by Robert Thompson’s in 1989, the work including replacement of the worn original cow hide with a more stain resistant hide that they’ve used since July 1989. This sales invoice is available to the new owners.
