Stock ref: DS1787
Circa late 1940s/1950s
A superb early Robert ‘Mouseman’ Thompson Oak Cheeseboard, the mouse carved characteristically to the board. Post 1960 the mouse carving was moved onto the handle to strengthen it as the earlier handles were prone to snapping. Privately acquired from the original Teesside owners family it has only ever been used as a display piece, protected by varnish in more recent years. We’ve carefully removed the varnish and wax polished the piece to accentuate the grain and natural waxed colour of the aged oak wood. A wonderful carved mouse on the board with no losses, rare as they are often damaged, especially on boards that have been used as intended.
