Circa 1960s

A superb, richly coloured 3’6″ 6 panel fronted Robert Thompson ‘Mouseman’ blanet storage box. It features the sought after adzing to the box frame as well as the top which is only found on earlier made pieces. Modern made versions only have adzing to the top. The typical  two plank top is hinged with wrought iron strap fittings and the blanket box stands on octagonal legs, one of which features a mouse carved in high relief.

Finished only with clear wax the superbly rich depth of colour and patina is derived entirely from the original fuming  and subsequent maturation of the oak. The top  retains a few light usage marks  and the expected minor joint shrinkage, adding to the character of the piece. Removal of the marks is possible but will damage the natural colour and patina that has developed.  With a lovely clean interior it is ready for immediate use.
