Circa mid/late 1950s
A wonderful richly coloured and patinated example of the popular oak Monks Chair from the workshop of Robert ‘Mouseman’ Thomson who originally designed these chairs for Ampleforth College in the early 1920s. Very comfortable to sit in they are characterized by the carved curved back, inlaid latttice panels and, of course, the trademark mouse carved to one of the toolled octagonally carved chair legs. The chair retains it’s original untreated aliline cow hide seat which is typically characterfully worn and stained but intact, which we’ve conditioned carefully over several days to ensure it remains usable for many more years to come.
