Robert ‘Mouseman’ Thompson, Rare Early Oak Barrel Jar and Lid

Stock ref: DS2533

Circa late 1930s / 1940s

A very rare example of the Robert ‘Mouseman’ Thompson Oak Barrel Jar and Cover, of turned  and shaped cylindrical form with 4 equally spaced hooped bands around the circumferance of the barrel. A well fitted domed cover lid with a signature mouse carved prominently.

Superb darker fumed  and waxed colour.

Wonderful condition, just the slightest natural hairline wood splitting along the grain is evident externally on one area of the barrel, but the splitting does not extend onto the inside of the piece.  Photographed fully in the image gallery below. We’ve seen just 4 of these come to market in the last 12 years we’ve been actively trading, all have exhibited some splitting on either the lid or barrel, this is by far the best example we’ve seen overall.

An identical designed  Mouseman Jar and Cover was sold by Tennants Auctioneers for £ 4,216 (incl buyers premium). Lot 532 24/3/2017.

Size: 12.5(dia) x 19.5(h)cm
