Circa 1930s
New in and market fresh from a private family collection, photographed as purchased and unloaded from our van.
An excellent set of 4 early low panel back dining chairs by Robert ‘Mouseman’ Thompson of Kilburn. The frames adzed all over, the panelled chair backs with characteristic hand cut-out. The thick leather aniline hide seat which wraps over the side frames is a 60s/70s replacement from Robert Thompsons. A signature carved mouse sits in high relief to the front leg of each chair.
Darker fumed from new each chair presents in excellent rich colour and patina with solid joints, the leather in very usable condition, although with some usage staining as is typical of aged untreated aniline hide.
Originally purchased by the former owners grandparents who lived close to Kilburn and knew Robert personally. One of a number of other early and later pieces privately purchased directly from the original owning family.
