Circa 1940s / 50s
An excellent pair of the rare and highly sought after Robert ‘Mouseman’ Thompson Squirrel Carved Oak Bookends. The squirrels beautifully observed and carved sat eating acorn nuts. Trademark mice are carved running along the tops of each bookend.
Privately sourced, in excellent overall condition and a rich fumed and aged colour, just the tiniest of nibbles on the ear tip of one squirrel which is shown in the image gallery below. It’s rare to find them in such good condition as they are prone to damage, especially around the ears which commonly snap off if the pieces are dropped or knocked over.
