Stock ref: DS2134
Circa 1950s
An excellent rare bespoke commissioned English adzed oak Prayer Desk by Robert ‘Mouseman’ Thompson. Features a sloping top above a panel with an intricately hand carved stylised Yorkshire rose, enclosing a rear shelf. Standing on two substantial and thick fully adzed side supports and sledge feet, joined by a floor strether, a large fat mouse carved to one foot.
Excellent condition structurally with no losses or damage, gently cleaned and re-waxed in our workshop.
Excellent provenance: From the Order of the Holy Paraclete, St.Hilda’s Priory, Whitby, North Yorkshire, an Anglican religous community for women founded in 1915. The recent building and opening of a new modern Priory has resulted in the rare sale of a number of their older ‘Mouseman’ furnishings. https://ohpwhitby.org.uk/the-priory/
It represents superb value for an older piece of Mouseman.
