Circa late 1930s /40s
An excellent and beautifully coloured and patinated example of the highly sought after burr oak dish topped stool by Robert ‘Mouseman’ Thompson. Of rectangular form these burr tops are steeped in water for several days to allow them to be more malleable and shaped and nailed onto the supporting four legged framework. Full burr like this is always difficult to carve and is quite fragile so the top has the expected natural age related cracking and natural gaps in the burr but there is no evidence of major breakage or previous repairs. Lovely early mouse carving to one leg, minor rubbing to the ears from decades of polishing.
