Circa 1930s
A superb and beautifully patinated example of an early Burr Oak Dished Stool by Robert ‘Mouseman’ Thompson, of rectangular form with the deeper apron rails only found on the earliest examples of these stools, standing on four octagonally carved legs joined by stretchers and a lovely signature mouse to one leg. These burr top had to be steeped in water for a considerable time to ensure they could be bent into the desired dished shape. It is increasingly rare to find an example that has not had breakage of the burr top as they are naturally prone to this at the four corners. Purchased privately directy from the original owners family, gently cleaned and rewaxed it presents in excellent structural condition with a naturally dark fumed rich and deep aged colour.
