Stock ref: DS1213
Circa 1950s / early 60s
Superbly presented rectangular coffee table from Sid Pollard, one of Robert Thompsons early craftsmen. Features a single plank adzed top supported by four inset octagonally carved and adzed legs on two dledge feet, joined by a stretcher at floor level.
Extensively adzed to all visible areas which reflets the light wonderfully. Clearly exceptionally well looked after it presents in excellent condition free from any staining or damage other than slight natural age related wood shrinkage where
the top is screwed into the underside supporting cross member. Wax finished in a wonderful aged deep honey colour and patina.
Sid Pollard lived in Bagby near Thirsk and was one of Robert Thompson’s early apprentices. His solo work which dates from the 40s through to the 70s is almost always unmarked, preferring to let his recognisable craftsmanship speak for itself. He combined
his solo woodcraft work with work within the family building firm, Pollard Builders.
