A superb solid oak bedside cabinet from the Windermere, Cumbria workshop of Stanley Webb Davies, the renowned Cotswold School Arts and Crafts furniture maker. Displaying the very finest cabinet making techniques and skills combined with meticulous attention to the smallest details. Of typical form with upstand to the rear of the top , open shelf and cupboard with inner shelf below, on a plinth base. The door handle in contrasting dark walnut with beautifully exposed wedge joints. Typical curved edges to the cabinet, exposed cogged dovetailing and wedged tennons throughout. Stunning golden oak colour and in excellent condition following a clean and wax in our workshop. Complete with protective glass top (not shown in the images below). Signed and dated in the expected SWD manner, made by F Ellison.
Privately acquired and with excellent provenance, part of a full bedroom suite bespoke made for his older brother William R. Davies and his wife Agnes. Complete with letter from Agnes dated 1974.
